Nadine
and I ran down to the harbor one more time so as not to miss our last sunrise
in Samos. Although it was rough trying to get up and run a hill, it was so
worth it. We had a wonderful talk on the way down and on our way back, a
fisherman had just caught an octopus. As Nadine touched her first octopus, my
mind brought me back to this summer when I caught one while night fishing.
While my octopus found safety back at sea, I wonder what the fate of this
little guy will be. Sushi??
As I
struggled back up the hill one last time, I kept reminding myself of what
Nadine once told me: Angels are lifting you higher and higher with each step.
And when I am about to give up, I often repeatedly yell in my head “mind over
matter”. These little ideas have helped me successfully complete many uphill
runs thus far.
We
made it back to the hotel just in time to have breakfast followed by time to
pack and have lunch. At 2 we stuffed our group into a small van and a truck
full of our backpacks. We arrived at the ferry and at 4 we took off! The boat
was basically a small, less beautiful version of a cruise. We even stopped at
different islands to get a grand tour of : picking up and dropping off
passengers. After 9 hours of entertaining ourselves, and sleeping, we finally
arrived at 2 in the morning in…. Syros (not our final destination).
Unfortunately in off season, the ferry doesn’t take you directly to Santorini,
so we stayed at a hotel until the next ferry departed at 9 in the morning.

We
woke up well rested, had some breakfast and continued our journey to the
beautiful Santorini. Right now I am sitting on the ferry, which is more like a
speed boat, traveling at 65 miles per hour. We have just docked at the island
of Mykinos ??? . The buildings I see through the windows are starting to look
like the classic Greek style houses you see in post cards; little white box
houses. I am getting more and more excited by the moment to arrive in
Santorini!
