Manolates

October 3
Today a few of us went on the usual run and after breakfast the group headed out to a little town called Manolates which was about an hour drive across the island. The town is known for its art having a few jewelry stores and a pottery store. After arriving we took a group picture and a few of us explored the town and some abandoned houses. Dan, Tory, and I went on a hike, which leads to the next town over. Dan sat down to draw, but Tory and I continued on our journey. We stopped along the way to pick some figs and put together a plate, which we found in an abandoned house. We walked through the woods for a total of about forty-five minutes until we found a group who said it was another hour hike to the next town over. So we headed back to our original location. Nonetheless it was an excellent adventure. Once in town we ate lunch and then worked on some art sketches. It was enjoyable, but what was even more enjoyable was talking to the locals about their village and the island of Samos. I love interacting with the locals and hearing their perspectives on life.
At four we headed back to the hotel. I did some laundry and then had dinner with the group at the hotel. Afterwards we all saw the movie Elisium at the theater in Vathi. It was a very intense, but well written and directed movie.
