Today we visited the Asclepieion which is basically a Greek hospital in 4th century B.C. Some interesting facts I discovered about this area is that the water that runs through there has been flowing for 2000 years. Also they used to let snakes loose in the hospital because they were thought of as sacred and had healing powers. This place had some cool tunnels and was much like the Acropolis in the way the pillars and arcs were designed. In fact you can see the Acropolis from where the Asclepieion lies. We stayed at this site for about 6 hours. I drew some columns and painted as well. We discovered a cool tunnel that runs underneath the theater. It was pitched black and had sewage smelling liquid in it so it was definitely an adventure especially when Casey scared us.
I walked around for a bit and eventually sat down near a tree after drawing and painting for hours. A friend and I ended up talking to these two guys from Belgium who in the last week have been traveling and doing many similar things to our group. Before coming to Bergama they too had visited Istanbul for a few days. Their trip is basically ours but compacted into one week before they go back to studying engineering in Belgium. They were very nice, and I am so enjoying meeting locals and fellow tourists on this trip.

After doing art for hours we walked back, and most of the girls decided to do a workout on the roof. We had a lot of fun doing 15 minute abs and jumping jacks, but the best part was jumping into the refreshing pool.
Following the pool we went on small group dates. My group went to a little restaurant that served kabobs (the usual) and soup. Although we had already had this style of food the entire trip, this restaurant cooked the kabobs perfectly. This has been my favorite meal of the last few days. Now I am sitting by the pool in a lawn chair typing on my blog while the crickets chirp and fellow classmates and teachers work on their projects and play games. What a beautiful way to end the day.
